Our Aims
To Elucidate the genomic basis of neoteny
The major attribute that differentiate all domesticated mammals from their wild extant counterparts is the evolutionary phenomenon of Neoteny. Neoteny is a developmental phenomenon with still unresolved molecular mechanisms. Neotenic species resemble the juvenile developmental stages of their ancient forebears in their present adult form. Neoteny also describes the transition from the common extinct ancestor of humans and chimpanzee to humans. In our perspective, Neoteny is crucial for studying the domestication process and by resolving this fascinating molecular mechanism we will be able to understand developmental mechanisms in mammals as well as malignancy and other developmental pathologies.
To assist farmers with agrigenomic innovations
Genomic tools are the most significant and widely used tools in agriculture for the purpose of breeding, tracing and improving traits in plants and animal alike. The field of Agrigenomics is vastly growing thanks to the improvements in high throughput sequencing technologies like next generation sequencing (NGS) with specific protocols designed for plant/animal genomes such as genotyping by sequencing (GBS). These genetic tools assist farmers, breeders and law enforcement authorities in many aspects of cultivation, analysis of offspring and traits and for forensic purposes.
